ADA Compliant Area of Refuge Sign – 6"x9" Tactile with Braille

Identify areas of refuge with this 6" x 9" ADA sign, with the International Symbol of Accessibility, raised AREA OF REFUGE lettering and Grade 2 Braille. The ADA requires tactile signs at doors to areas of refuge (2010 ADA Standards, Section 216.4.2).

  • Text: "AREA OF REFUGE" in 1/32" raised uppercase sans-serif letters, with raised pictogram
  • Braille: Grade 2, below the text
  • Thickness: 1/8" acrylic
  • Finish: matte, non-glare, with high-contrast letters
  • Colors: Black, Blue, Brown, Silver, Brushed Aluminum
  • Mounting: high-bond double-sided tape
  • Standards: built to the 2010 ADA Standards (Section 703) and CBC Chapter 11B

Installation: Mount on the wall beside the door, on the latch side. Place the tactile text between 48" and 60" above the finished floor, with an 18" x 18" clear floor space in front of the sign, outside the door swing.

Note: Brushed Aluminum is made to order, with a brushed-silver face and black lettering. Areas of refuge also need posted instructions and two-way communication, which are separate from this sign.
